How to Enter

Here are the steps you need to complete to enter the competition.

Due Date: Monday, October 28, 2013, 5:00 p.m., EST

The completed pre-registration form must include the following items:

  1. Name(s) of student(s) submitting the entry
  2. Student ID(s)
  3. Concept/idea title
  4. One sentence synopsis of concept/idea

Pre-registration information (coming soon) used to verify student eligibility, as well as prepare for and organize judging.

Due Date: Monday, November 18, 2013, 5:00 p.m., EST 
The completed entry form (coming soon) must including the following items:

  1. Title
  2. Name(s)
  3. Student ID(s)
  4. Concept/idea title
  5. One sentence synopsis of concept/idea
  6. Concept
    Describe the concept or business idea, and what problem or opportunity is addressed by your concept. (200 words maximum)
  7. Market/Customer
    Describe the market need addressed by your concept, the size of the market opportunity, and the barriers to entry. (200 words maximum)
  8. Competition
    Describe the competition in terms of their market position, and also in terms of how your concept differs. (200 words maximum)
  9. Sales/Marketing
    Describe how you will access the market, price services or products, and close sales. (200 words maximum)
  10. Team
    Describe your team, how your background and skills prepare you to lead this effort, and other skills/human resources necessary for your concept to succeed. (200 words maximum)
  11. Financial projection
    Provide estimates of the financial opportunity afforded by your concept in terms of size and timescale, and the resources (financial or other) needed to succeed. (200 words maximum)
  12. Implementation plan
    Describe how you will implement your concept, the major milestones you expect, and any other dependencies or requirements that are necessary for your concept to succeed. (200 words maximum)
  13. Videos (optional): To include a video with your submission, please upload your video as a PRIVATE YouTube video and invite the BEST administrators to view it with the username: iubestcompetition

    Be sure to include your YouTube username and video title in your written document.
  14. Disclosures: Disclose if you already have a business, investors, or business partners. In addition, although we encourage resubmissions of business concepts, we require teams resubmitting a business concept to explicitly state the dates of past submissions along with what changes have been made based on the feedback that was received.
